History

Chai Ashkelon was established in 1979 by Rabbi M. Lieberman.

His arrival in Ashkelon was sponsored by Project Renewal of England.

The first activity that Chai Ashkelon organized was a mass Lag B’omer parade. Today there are daily activities and programs in the city.

The first kindergarten was opened in 1983 with 10 children. Today Chai runs a preschool network of 14 kindergarten and pre1A  classes and 6 daycare center classes. The demand is still greater than the capacity in the system.

The school was opened in 1996 with 14 girls in the first grade. Today Chai has two elementary and intermediary schools, a girls’ high school and a boys’ Yeshiva.

The school has to turn away many parents who would like to register thier children, due to a lack of space.

In 1979 the first Chai Center was established in the city. Today there are 5 Chai Centers, a preschool network spread out in the city, 2 school buildings, 4 synagogues, 2 senior centers, a soup kitchen, Chesed Center, Judaica center and we are still expanding
